::FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:: Watermans Paddle for Humanity Heads East

Deerfield Beach is the Next Stop for the PFH

Orange County, CA – The Right Coast is ramping up for the 2nd annual Watermans Paddle for Humanity – Deerfield Beach, Florida, June 1-2, 2012.    The Dana Point event was a huge success and saw some intense action from several of the sports most prominent athletes and the writing is on the wall, PFH Deerfield will not be one to miss.  This year’s event features a 5K fun paddle, 10K elite race and the infamous CPR race.

The Watermans Paddle for Humanity is about creating channeling the positive energy of the paddling community towards a good cause.  This years events focus on bringing money and awareness to a variety of non-profit organizations, allowing the participant to chose their favorite cause to support.  The official charity of the series is the Navy SEAL Foundation.

The most important aspect of the Paddle for Humanity is that it has something for everyone.  “You don’t have to be a world class athlete to participate,” said race director Pete Stirling.  Adding, “For our events it is all about people of all ages, experience and skill level toeing the line and experiencing the fun that comes with being part of the paddling community.” Online registration is as low as $50 and 20% of the proceeds go directly to the charity of the participant’s choice.

One notable addition to this year’s event is the CPR race.  A challenging course created by Elite Waterman Chuck Patterson that has been compared to the Tough Mudder of Paddling. “I’ve had people tell me it was the hardest race they’ve ever done and then turn around and say it was the most fun they’ve had in the same sentence,” said Patterson. The CPR – Chuck Patterson Rally

THE CPR… A devilish race straight from the mind of one of the sports greatest promoters, Chuck Patterson.  The Paddle for Humanity has something for everyone – a 5k fun paddle for the 1st timer and intermediate just looking to enjoy the day; a 10K for those looking to push themselves against the worlds best; and now the CPR.  When we first started to talk about the race Chuck’s intentions were clear, he wanted to make something fun that would challenge anyone willing to take it on and reward participants for having a good time and being fit.  The event is as much about being an all around athlete as paddling, but more importantly it is about the experience.  Each participant is up against themselves to finish the course and see what they are made of.  From a qualitative standpoint, there is not bad time, only good times.  It will be as fun to watch as it is to participate in and I won’t be upset if it ends up stealing the show.  Growing the sport is what the PFH is all about and it would be to the benefit of all if it continues to grow in this direction.

Come see the CPR in action at an event near you!

On-it Pro Video of the Chuck Patterson Rally

This little video made it onto the web early, so we decided to show it.  If you haven’t heard yet the Chuck Patterson Rally is a killer.  20% of the field failed to finish and those who did earned it.  The event is a true test of a competitors metal and not one to miss.  Next stop, Deerfield Beach.  It will be interesting to see who is up to the challenge.

It is worth noting that Connor’s use of a relatively new product, the LiftSUP, created quite a stir and gave him a noticeable advantage over the competition.  I’m sure we will be hearing more about this product in the future.

The race challenged the best with World Champion Connor Baxter, Fernando Stalla and Slater Trout battling it out for most of the race.  In the end it was Connor who overcame an apparent near blackout while attempting to reenter the  water for his last leg that won the race.  In five plus years of watching these races I’ve never seen competitors of this caliber walking into the water at the end of a lap.  It was a sight to see.

Stay tuned for results, race recap and more photos/videos over the next few days as we recover from a great weekend of racing.
